purple bubble trouble

not sure if the mithrax/emerald crabs do. i know they eat bubble algae though, but I am not familiar with what you are discribing.

I don't know of purple, but Red Bubble algae is nasty stuff... I'm not sure of anything that eats it, but if you get your nutrients down it should go away with manual removal...

Ohhh... You're talking about Cyanobacteria...

You're likely still cycling... Again, bring the nutrients down, do a water change and it will likely go away... If it persists, try keeping your lights out for 24-48 hrs, and it should help improve the situation...

Increased flow also helps, as does a good skimmer. I have it in my new setup but don't worry too much about it as I know it will go away in a few weeks. While ugly, it usually goes away on its own. Potassium permanganate and ozone can also help, but you must be very careful with both of these options. Siphoning it out will also help but it generally comes back in less than 24 hours. Patience, grasshopper, is the key.

Thanks for the info . Tank's been up for two months tryed the siphoning and U are right back in the 24 hrs.Did a 15% water change an still come's back.Patience I guess.

No worries... As Dave (cee) said, have patience... Definitely a virtue in this hobby... ;)

I had it (cyano) for much longer than a tank should take to cycle - in fact, it didn't really get going until about 9 months after my tank was set up, and I struggled with it for about a year. My suspicion is that phosphates were leaching out of my liverock because it seemed to improve rapidly when I added a GFO reactor. If your cyano persists, you might consider trying GFO. I use the ROWAPhos brand.
