Purple Tank Nipping at Polyps

My Purple tank is nipping, anyone else have any tang start nipping at acros? The fish are fed very well.

From my understanding ALL fish will nip at corals depending on the health state of the coral. Is it nipping at all your acros, or perhaps just one in particular? If it's one, it could be dead or dying tissue on the coral it is picking on.

My purple tang is a nipper as well, i have friends with same problems. They are definetly not a "true" reef safe fish

Every Powder Blue I put in my tank was a nipper, and right now I have a Powder Brown (aka gold rim tang, white cheek, etc) that is also a nipper. He likes to pick on a purple plasma and milli colony, but nothing else.

I have angels and a pink tail trigger, and none of them touch anything.

You can never tell. It all depends on the individual fish.

Just my 2 cents.

I never experienced that before with any purple tangs! And of course you will have to tear the system apart to get the bad boy out! We need to remember nothing is 100% RS! I hope they do not do to much damage! Chef!

Just about any tang I have added to my sps tank they have all been nippers. I don't believe any are reef safe. They were all well fed. But still nipped.

you must have a lot of coraline algae then.........sorry, couldn't resist.

Purple Tangs are going to occasionally graze the rockwork and occasionally they will nip an acro. Nipping is generally okay as long as they don't do any serious damage.

My yellow tang is a bottom sps nipper. When i have frags or colonies on the bottom he goes from one to another nipping.Never touches them as soon as they are mounted, even close too the bottom.
