purple tilefish

I purchased a purple tilefish and it is not eating well. Spits food in and out of mouth but doesn't swallow it. feeding frozen brine shrimp and marine supreme mix. What food is recommended for this fish? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Feed it small pieces of food. Fishbase doesn't have any diet info on them, but it does have zooplankton listed as stomach contents in a purple tilefish; that's good. Most tilefish are specialized polyp feeders. They won't eat anything but coral.

Try to get some live brine from an lfs or hatch your own. See if he goes for that. Or cyclops.

This fish is a carnivore but considered difficult. To start, you might try live brine shrimp and then add mysis. They are definitely prone to decompression sickness as collection decompression may have been faulty.

Went out and bought live brine shimp and frozen mysis shrimp the purple tilefish ate a couple live ones but loved the mysis THANKS for the info.
