purple vs regular firefish

Is the purple fire fish any hardier or more outgoing than the regular fire fish? In my tank, the regular firefish I have had were too timid about feeding in competition with the other fish and eventually starved.

I would like some experience in this field too (especially for larger tanks with a few larger active fish like tangs)

Firefish, regardless of type are timid and easily intimidated. For success, you need gentle neighbors or they will hide and starve to death.

I agree. I have a zebra dartfish Ptereleotris zebra, and I made the mistake of buying a firefish, another goby. The zebra dartfish prevented the firefish from ever eating; seriously contemplate if you're ready to risk losing a firefish to a supposedly co-existing fish.
Between the purple firefish and the regular firefish, I agree; both are timid and will starve with an enthusiastic eater (i.e. my zebra dartfish). The only difference between them is color (obviously) and about $20.
