Can you use pvc sched 40 elbows and sched 80 pipe? Will they bond together or are they different materials. I have some sched 80 pipe left over from something else and all I can find at Lowes is sched 40 elbows. Should I stop being cheap and go pay the $4.00 for a length of sched 40 pipe? lol

You have to use the schedule 40 with 40 and 80 with 80. Are you really a Seabee?

Why can't you use sch 40 with 80. one is rated higher in pressure than the other so its merely a matter of the fitting or tube being thicker in construction. So if you go with the glue suitable for the thinner you may not get sufficieint melting of the joint for a high pressure bond, but it shoul dbe suitable for any aquarium plumbing at the pressures they typically use, DWV would be more than suffiicient.......NOw I would not use that combo if plumbng involved high pressures, and would stay with all sch 80, but mixing 40 and 80 in a aquarium setup is IMHO not a problem....

That is what I was thinking as well Chipmaker. Not a lot of pressure on my return. I just was not sure about the two being made of the same materials or not sincec they are different colors. They do fit as far as the pipe and fittings go.

I have personally used them together for years with zero problems. Most of our uses are not extremely pressurized.
