qt advice

I have 4 tangs, 2 clowns, 3 of the ick eating blennies or gobies or whatever they are, a sand sifting goby, and a starfish.

For starters do the sand sifters, blenny and starfish need to be pulled out of the tank? Can they get ich or can ich reproduce using them?

Second I have a good spare skimmer and an old rk2 I could use to keep the temp accurate... If I bought a 40g breeder would that be big enough considering I have 4 tangs? I am willing to do the work but am really tight on space to put another tank for this... 8 weeks is a long time to have all these fish in a small tank and I cant even imagine keeping a bunch of 10g tanks at the right temp and salinity... not to mention skimming.

I am looking for the qt tank I will not be doing hypo salinity in the display its loaded with corals. I am asking if a 40 breeder would work for what I have listed if I put a bunch of pvc in it. I would be willing to buy a 40 breeder just for this because I would like to convert my 55 sump to a 40 breeder anyway.

2 months is a long time the tangs need more space then the 40 breeder, maybe if you can get two 40,s and split half the fish in one the rest in the other.

Also how big is your display ( just wondering )

so the fish that picks ick off the sides of the fish... maybe it doesnt eat them I cant see that small :)

The blue, yellow, and yellow eyed are all around 3 inches the naso is probably 5 from head to tail.

This was really my fault I added a purple yellow eyed tang without a qt and he had ich... he is the worst the others are iching but are not displaying ich yet... I am just paranoid and want to get this fixed

In a perfect world, a bigger QT would be great. If you have no other choice, I think your fish could handle the 40B for the QT period. They may show some aggression, but if the alternative is not being treated---they'll adapt. Be sure to give them hiding spots. Lack of swimming room isn't going to kill any fish in 8 weeks. . I've seen more fish packed into a lot less space. ALL fish need to be treated, leave the inverts in the DT. BTW, ich is IN the fish, not ON it. The white spots you see are not the actual parasite, its buried well out of reach of cleaners. BTW, you're not being paranoid, IMO (for what ever that's worth) you're being responsible.

How do I keep a sand sifting goby alive in a hypo salinity tank with no sand? Thanks for the help guys.
You can use a clean substrate in a hypo tank. Some people have also used plastic trays of sand. My knowledge of gobies, blennys, dragonettes, etc. is limited; but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Yea if someone knows more about the gobys that would be great.

As for the qt would it be better to put the tangs in there own 10g tank or have the room to swim in the 40?

The biggest tank you can; unless a real war develops. I doubt that it will.

I have wondered about this as well. I thought that sand sifters need pods that are in the sand? Adding new sand means no pods, old sand means bad stuff....
