I currently have had a hippo tang in QT for 2 weeks. havent used copper because i havent seen any ich. I just bought a clown fairy wrasse. The QT tank is 10 gal.

Will they be okay together in the QT tank or should i just not QT the wrasse and add him to the DT? THanks

How big is the hippo tang? I definitely would QT the wrasse but IME a 10 gal is too small for both of those fish.

10gal is too small, IMO, for any active fish. Let alone two of them. You will battle ammonia. Do yourself a favor by setting up a larger tank. It will save you lots of trouble.

I have 29g and 55g tanks cycled and ready to accept new acquisitions. I will use the 29 for smaller fish. Right now I have a fairy wrasse and a flasher wrasse in it. I use the 55 for larger fish or if I have more than two or three which would be too much for the 29. Each tank has an HOB filter and a sponge filter.

hippo is about 1.5 inches. wrasse is about 2 inches. wrasse seems very calm and i have PVC pipes in there to hide in. Just wasnt totally sure. im acclimating him to QT tank now..

the hippo has been in there 2 weeks now. i have a filter on it right now. he is eating and has colored up since i picked him up.

Do you plan to treat them? If so you'll have to remove the filter media. How are you going to maintain bio filtration after removing the majority of the bacteria?

Don't forget, adding a second fish into the QT will negate the 2 weeks of QT that the hippo has already gone through and will restart the "clock".

I havent treated anything because the tang seems healthy and no signs of ich have showed up.

Please remember that physical signs do not have to be present for ich to exist. With any Tang I would assume it is present and treat as such. Two weeks is not long enough. IMO.

Treat or not to treat is and has been the subject of many heated threads. Ultimately it is up to the individual. I would recommend looking into the tank transfer method to treat for ich or the possibility of ich.

In the future you can save yourself some headache by not adding fish to a QT in progress. While not ideal the 10g will work in a pinch given they are not very big. I would look into finding a 30g for QT. If you do decide to do tank transfer you can use the 10g for one of transfer tanks. good luck.
