QT larger fish.. how to ?

I am setting up a 300+ gallon tank.. I was thinking about the QT system and was wondering how do you guys with large tanks Qt larger fish?
setting up a 50-80 Gallon or so Qt is not really an issue but wouldn't putting an 7 or 8" or larger fish in a small tank just stress them out ?

Thanks in advance for your input..

People seldom start out with a 7-8" fish. They get them much smaller, as younger fish learn to adapt to captive life better than a larger, more mature fish. But if you think you will be quarantining larger fish then you will perforce have to get a larger QT tank.

Ditto. I would also add that if you were set on acquiring 7"+ fish then you're best bet is to buy from Liveaquaria's Divers Den since they QT, any LFS that QT, and lastly from any hobbyist that is selling their established fish. The last would be the best and least expensive.

Sorry, maikoa02, but I would not trust any fish source, including the ones you have listed. Moving a fish is stressful and most of their pathogens are ever present and are more likely to express themselves in a stressed fish. I would QT all fish if for no other reason than to get them used to the water conditions in your set-up. Better safe than sorry.

Look for a 40g or 50g breeder tank. The 36x18 footprint would make it big enough for a 7-8" fish. You could pick up a 40g breeder next time petco has the dollar/gallon sale.

Just get a 55 gallon off craigslist. IMO larger fish like the 4' tank better. I haven't used my 40 breeder since I picked up the 55.
