If you buy live rock for the main tank from a LFS do you quaratine the live rock and how long? Can live rock be contaminated with anything?

I never thought of this... but there is a possibility to bring with it flatworms, parasite cysts etc... I guess I wont hurt to quarantine it in a bucket (just like curing).

I got some rocks from a fellow reefer and it had aiptasia on it. If I'd QTed it, I'd probably didn't have to rely on my peppermint shrimp to keep aiptasia under control.

TekCat is right there is a chance off introducing pest's when adding live rock.
Isopods are a prime example. Of course youd have to QT for about 3 months for them to die off. This is one advantage of getting all your rock at once. then your main tank can be your qt while the rock cures.

If you are setting up a new system then there is no need to QT the live rock. Just put it all in the display tank and let it go through it's cycle.

If you are adding Live Rock to an already established display tank then you want to QT the rock for a while. One reason is to make sure it is completely cured. The other is to make sure there are not any unwanted hitchhikers on it.
