I have a 30g that currently has goldfish in it that I am going to make into a qt for my saltwater fish. I am moving the water & substrate w/the goldfish. Is there anything else I need to do to the tank before I add my saltwater? Cleaning??? The goldfish are healthy. Won't the salt kill anything that my be in the tank? For future reference can you just add salt to a freshwater tank and it be okay for the saltwaterfish? I know the salt will kill the bacteria but that would be alot easier then empting the tank!!!

Generally. . .It's a better idea to dump and rinse the tank. Using used aquarium water from a fresh tank can bring some ingredients that were not expected by the salt mix manufacturer. But, if the salt manufacturer doesn't have a problem with it, then it should be okay.

If you've treated the freshwater tank with any drugs, medications, or chemicals, it may have left a residue that would be worth getting out.

Fresh tap water rinse would be good enough, but if your tap is untrustworthy, follow that rinse by a rinse with RO/DI or DI rinse. :)
