I have a 29 gallon that I have been using as a fish storage / QT tank. I've had up to 3 fish in it with no issues with Ammonia. Maybe some nitrates from insufficient water changes, but other than that the fish remain healthy. I've used live rock in conjunction with hyposalinity, filter pads full of bacteria, fresh carbon, and airation in the hob filter to QT fish. No sump.
I was wondering if it would be o.k. to QT larger typed juvenile fish. Some thoughts are a foxface, possibly some type of tang, etc.
I do a 4 -5 week hyposalinity treatment then around a 2 week gradual increase to 1.025sg.
So, at most the fish would be in the tank 6 to 7 weeks, then moved to my 6ft 125g tank. Is that torturous to the fish or they o.k. for a few weeks in cramped condition. I would never do more than one fish at a time (ever).
I'm not sure if it's any different han pet stores, then again, I don't know if pet stores ever have fish in their tanks for 2 months.
Without getting into the pet store debate, is this o.k. to do as long as it's not an adult fish?
