I currently have a small blue hippo and a royal gramma who I spotted the ick on, next day it was not there but I know its not gone the gramma also has dark blotches on him he swims strange but has hiding spots in the rocks so I can not catch him. The blue hippo I save seen scratch on the rocks he likes to say in him hiding area most of the time they both eat but not alot all there food I have always added garlic gaurd too, I reasontly got a cleaner shrimp for the problem. I just bought 2 butterflys 2 cleaner wrasse and another cleaner shrimp for the tank, I bought the cleaners for helping the ick problem and I would like to protect the butterflys, should I buy a chemical to help with the problem? If i set up a QT tank what size should I use and what should I put in the tank to help with ick. For the DT should I add a chemical use a hypo method what is best?
Advice plz?

Cleaners cannot help with ich, the parasite is buried too deep. How big is your DT? You seem to be adding fish very fast.
The only way to cure ich is in a QT/HT; you'll need a big one; maybe a 55. . Tank transfer, copper, and possibly hypo are the only cures. Your DT must stay fishless for 10-12 weeks. After you get through this, use a QT on all new fish; or it will just happen again. The ich has infected your DT, even if it isn't presently visible on a fish. You have a big job ahead, a good QT regimen on all new fish would have prevented it. First, I'd read all the stickies on ich at the top of this forum section. A knowledge of the ich life-cycle will make sense of what you're looking at. Ask questions along the way, you'll get help. Also, don't waste time and money on any of the "reef-safe" ich cures, there aren't any.

Edit: I hope your public profile is wrong and all these fish aren't in a fairly new 55 gal tank.

My DT is 125 gallons and I know I made a mistake of adding fish too quickly now, but there is no way of treating ick with out taking everything out of the DT? And is there a way that works with out using copper
and no that 55 gallon build isnt even running any more haha i just havent updated my info
thank you

Again: please read the ich stickies at the top .
Sorry, ich just can't be treated in a DT. I guess hypo has worked; but that wouldn't be my choice. Its difficult in a QT, almost impossible in a DT, IMO. The only other methods are: 1)tank-transfer; a great cure, but may be difficult with that many fish. 2.) Copper. not that hard or dangerous if you research the method and follow it exactly. IMO, its the best option for treating multiple fish an quite safe when used properly. Some people have had success with some of the quinine/malaria drugs; I have no personal experience with them and the main one, quinine sulfate, seems "iffy" and has serious drawbacks, IMO. You aren't alone; the ordeal of dealing with ich in a DT is a major part of this forum section. Many hobbyists learn from the experience and start using a QT and I think the many who fail at curing the parasite (usually by looking for an easier way) contribute heavily to the large turnover in our hobby. But, the supply a lot of the inexpensive equipment on Craigslist.
