how long to keep sick fish in qt and how do you transfer/capture to put back in dt with re stressing them

It depends on the disease being treated for.
It depends on how you are going to deal with existing pathogens in the DT. Ich, external bacteria have different criteria, for example.
I also depends on if the goal is a permanent cure or just to save the fish from dying until you find a solution to your disease problem, especially against ich. If you have no nitrification in QT (you should definitely), you get sick of changing water to rid ammonia so you return the fish to DT prematurely, or your fish die from ammonia poisoning first, not the disease.
