Quarintine corals?

I only had a reef tank then eventually quarintined some fish and added them to my tank. Everything is doing great. Now I have a friend of mine that wants to give me his anemone and some mushrooms. In the past I have quarintined corals but I no longer have a q-tank. Can I put the anemone and mushrooms in my tank without having to setup a qtank? Is there a dip I can use instead?

My concern is ich. His tank has been running for a while with no issues.

There are coral dips out there (I use Coral Rx) but it doesn't claim to kill Ich, just mainly worms and such. And I don't know if I'd dip the anemone in it, although I know for a fact it doesn't kill aiptasia anemones. :mad2:

So, the short answer is yes, you are taking a chance of introducing Ich into your DT unless you QT the coral/anemone for at least 9 weeks. It's a slight chance but it's still there. If you plan on doing it anyway, I suggest you at least rinse the coral/anemone off with s/w from your DT right before you put them in. I've read this might "wash away" any parasites attached to the coral/anemone. In any case, I don't see how it can hurt...

Not worth the risk to me. Is it feasable for you to pick up a small tank and outfit it with a T5 light for the anemone? I would house an anemone like this for 10-12 weeks with no fish to be certain that you don't introduce ich into your system.

Thanks for all the advice. Its a sensitive topic for me as I have had two massive ich outbreaks. My LFS thinks I am paranoid, I just don't want my fish dying. I guess I will have to just quarantine then . . . :worried:
