Queen Conch Threads

Hi, I am looking for some threads that I read a long time ago about Queen Conchs that contained info about what they eat -- how many are reccommended per tank (How big your tank must be to even keep one).

I know some people that are thinking of buying a lot of them and am concerned they are making a very bad decision by trying to add quite a few to a tank (more than 10). I would just like to be able to point them to a thread where they can make their own decision instead of feeling like I am trying to snuff out a good buy.

Queen Conchs get HUGE. I would only keep one in a 100g tank with LOTS of substrate. They mainly eat film like algae such as diatoms, dinoflagellates, cyanobacteria, etc. I don't know what thread that you have in mind, but look through this list: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:http://reefcentral.com+Queen+Conch

You'll find a good section in this article. There are conchs which are better suited for life in a reef tank, but id can be a bit tricky when they're small. Quite often queen conchs are mislabeled. Such is my case I have two of them which were sold as fighting conch fortunately I have tanks which should be able to support them for awhile.

i agree with graveyardworm make sure what you order is what you get i bought two that where labled as queen conchs and turned out to be welks
