Im about to move in to my new home and it will have engineer glue down wood floor. My question is that is it wise to have this 240g tank sitting on top of it. Will it damage anything? Im afraid that if I spill any water it might damage it. Does anyone have a big tank sitting on wood floor?

Assuming you are not placing a fake wood floor in your new home the odds are pretty good that you will incur some water damage with your floor. Even spilling just a cup of water could result in some damage because it will travel underneath your stand where you will be unable to clean it up and will proceed to warp and damage the floor. Salt Water and Wood do not mix well so keep that in mind. If you are having a new floor placed in the home and you are sure about the placement you could have the contractor build in a tile breakout for the tank that would look nice and prevent damage to the floor directly under the tank.

My suggestion is pick a different flooring- Tile or Stained concrete.

I have my 300 G on a Engineered wood floor in my basement. Yes I have had the occasional power out water overflowing on my floor. Luckely I was home and was able to clean up the 60 gallons that went on the floor quickly. To this date, no warping has occured, but I am not picking up my tank stand to clean under it.

Hope this helps.

sound like Im going have to find another area of my house that have tile. Finding another room with tile is easy but finding an 8" feet wall to lean the tank back is hard.

Hugh Ngo.... Are we cousin :) lol? I have seen a few large tank sitting on wood floor (don't ask me which type of wood cuz they all look the same to me) they all seem to do fine. Just be careful whenever you do water change....

You can place an area rug or every time you work on it have some towels around laying on the bottom. My friend has his tank on hard wood and he always has some towel when working on it.It helps if you can have the sump in the basement this will make for a better work area around the sump.Water changes carbon, etc plus all the equipment can stay out of view.
