question about aiptasia

i don't have aiptasia, but my LFS has a great deal on an awesome clam that currently lives in a tank that has it. the owner said it's not as big of a deal as people say and that you can just scrub the clam with a toothbrush and get rid of any aiptasia.

i generally don't trust people at LFS's, but i was wondering how does aiptasia reproduce? do they split like other anemones? i generally steer clear of anything in a tank that has visible pests but this clam is EXACTLY what i'm looking for and to this point, haven't had any luck finding this bright blue of a clam for a reasonable price.

Aiptasia reproduce like other nems.. They will split or can simply stick a pice of a tentacle to something and "walk away". As they walk away their tenticles will seperate from their body. That tentacle or piece will become a new aiptasia. This being said i see no reason to worry about your clam so long as you inspect it for aips. If you see any rip them off, scrub them off, kalk them off, what ever it takes. Then if possible put it in quarantine for a few weeks. This will give you tim to make sure there is no sign of aips.

good luck. I would get it.
