question about fraggin palys

If the palys are glued to rocks and u want to frag them,how are u supposed to do it
I dont want to break the rock
Is it Ok if I just cut as closed to the rock as possible which is underneath the polyps?
or do I have to break the rock?
if I cut right underneath,there would be a thin layer of meat from the palys still glued to the rock
then I could just scrape that layer of and glue the frag bakc on that rock after I fragged it
is that method possible?
