question about ick

I have a sailfin tang that has some small white spots here and there, not many at all about 5 or 6 i can see. they are inconsistant not in the same spot and not as many from day to day. He shows no signs of scraching on the rocks he has not lost his desire for food every now and than I see the cleaner shrimp picking at him but not sure if its at the white spots. Is this ick? no other fish has them cross my fingers.

cross your fingers is right.....
if you can qt the fish, that the best thing...
most likley just some gunk attaching to it.......but....

put him in QT tank and get one of the millions of "off-the shelf" cures around....( i.e. Malachite Green, etc)....
I wouldnt trust tryingany Ick medications in your main tank....
I still have a brand new un-opened Ruby's Kick-Ick (or whatever its called)....I just ended up catching the fish and putting it in a QT tank rather then risk my corals.....but just IMO....

Why would you guys want to go buy something to add to the QT tank when you could just do hypo and save the money? So much easier than adding this on this day and then this much on the next two consecutive days followed by half the recommended dose on the fourth friday of the 8th week of the month.

Hmmm..... well none of my stars are dead, non of my snails are dead, none of my crabs are dead.
This is from seachem:
Metronidazoleâ"žÂ¢ is a highly pure, crystalline metronidazole. It is the most effective form available. It is effective against a vast array of parasitic infections ("hole in the head") with little danger of overdosage. It is easily removed through chemical filtration and is well tolerated by most invertebrates.more...

If you have tangs and change your tank around a little...get used to ich. You can either kick back and hope it fights it off, or qt them as soon as possible. If you choose the latter, you should just do hyposalinity. I've read too many posts of "supposed" reef safe methods that didn't work at all, or damaged other corals. I agree that hypo is relatively easy and not too stressful if done right. Ignore any posts about garlic. There is evidence that it helps to maintain the immune system, but absolutely 0 evidence that it rids fish of ich on its own. If you want to run hypo, feel free to check some early posts of mine. Every argument was already covered and explained there I'm sure! Good luck!
