Question about Pincushion and corals

Always wanted to add Pincushion Urchin to my 75g but don’t know if it will be OK with corals like hammer, frogspawn, brain and similar?
What is your experience with this urchin? Any advise is appreciated.

i have never seen them mess with the corals other then pushing them around. but they do eat your coraline and destroy your live rock in the long run. they are not reef safe and i will never own one again but alot of people love them and dont mind them eating there coraline algea and destroying things.

I’ve read that they might eat coraline. Not sure what you mean “destroy your live rock”.
Eating coraline is not a big deal for me… My question is more to damaging corals with spines.. Just can’t imaging delicate bubble coral and urchin in the same tank. But thanks for the response anyway.:wavehand:

The biggest problem with these guys is that they like to pick up loose frags and carry them around, dropping them in inconvenient location. Between my urchin and my brittle star (who always drags things under a rock), I couldn't keep a frag that wasn't nailed down.

They won't destroy live rock. Depending on how large your aquarium is, the coralline should have plenty of opportunity to grow back.

Long-spine urchins get really big, and could cause a problem for bubble corals or other soft-fleshed LPS, I suppose.

urchins eat your rock work as well as the coraline algea. so slowly over time they destroy your live rock and turn it into sand..lol.. if you get an urchin take some time out of your day to watch it and you will see what i mean.

but if you dont mind that then go ahead and get one. again i have never heard of anybody having problems with urchins killing corals or harming them.

anybody who thinks that urchins dont actually take small chuncks out of your live rock have never actually sat in front of there tanks and just watched. i have seen urchins first hand destroy my live rock and the same with my buddies tanks.

yes it may be a small amount that they destroy at a time but the fact is they do it.
