Question about skimmer setup

I have a quick question about my Skimmer - I am getting it setup and have put the return in the refugium section of my sump - this just isn't working out because it is really kicking up the substrate.

The only other option that I really have is to put the return right next to the intake for the skimmer - is that going to be effective - or do I need to just consider getting a better sump. Thanks in advance!

You can put the return next to the intake. It will take the skimmer longer to skim the entire tank as it is drawing in already skimmed water mixed with un skimmed water. I would look into a new sump design if I where you or just see if there is a way to close off the intake from the return. Perhaps construct an acrylic box around the skimmer to close it off in the sump and have the return just outside this box? A pic would help alot in determining a solution.
