Question about Vortech's

What is the difference between VorTech MP40w ES Propeller Pump and VorTech MP40w Propeller Pump? Seems like I have seen on here people talking about Generation 1 and Generation 2 as well. Which one does everyone prefer? I do not have one yet but plan on getting one in the near future. Currently I have a 58 gallon, is this going to be too much flow? I want to upgrade to a 90 or 120 in the near future and don't want a pump that is too small when I do upgrade.

Hi Shane,

I'm not sure about differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2, but the ES version has a newer controller that has a few more features.

Gen 1 and Gen II refer to the W...not the ES.

Gen 1 and 2 relate to the version of the driver. A gen 1 Driver was blue case and was their original firmware. Gen II was there next version of the MP40W.

ES is a new Driver, the next evoulution in the MP line.

the differences between gen1 to gen2. Is the night mode on gen 2 and work out the kinks out.
the ES is more up to date has an on off switch in the past you would need to cut power to the controller and would lose your night mode setting and 2 other pump mode
(EcoSmart Nutrient Transport Mode) Alternates between a resonent standing wave and a surge effect to stir up and export nutrients.
(EcoSmart Tidal Swell Mode)Flow varies from left to right, right to left, calm, and ends with a great surge.
And more energy efficient controller.

I would go with ES if you the money or you get a used gen2 and upgrade to es down the road. keep the old contriller if your es get wet or need send it in for work or update firmward. so you still have a a powerhead.
hope this help

sorry andy but no your wrong the blue one is mp40 not wireless
mp40w gen1 and gen2 its in the white caseing look at the above post between the 2.
.

I would say that this is a lot of pump for a 58 gal but perfect for a 75 or 90 you can dial in the settings so an MP40 can run even in a smaller tank than a 58. I would try and get an MP40ES if you can or a gen2 and upgrade later. the upgrade is $100 to get you from a gen2 w to an ES. I have been very happy with mine and look forward to getting another.
