Question for people with Herbie's plumbing method

Is your overflow filled with the crud you skim off the tank's surface? Since Herbie's drain pipe is submerged it would seem that the crud would just stay on the surface inside the overflow instead of going down the drain. Does this happen?

Not in my box no. The flow inside the box is very turbulant due to the small area, providing a very good mixing all the time.

Don't see it in mine, however I run the primary drain throttled back enough that there's always a trickle going down the emergency drain.
