Question for those of you with 180 or bigger tanks

My 150's are a hands width from the wall.It is good for running power cords for pumps and lights. Also try to mount your controlers on the ends of your conopy or on the wall....not under the tank.Salt water will kill them.If you dont have controlers plan for them anyway. This hoby has a way of growing on you.....and your house.

Joe,

You may want to reconsider about puting your show tank in the basement, unless you and your family spend a lot of time down there. When I had all my tanks in the basement, I usually went down there to feed the fish, do maintenance, but hardly enough time to enjoy them.

You should put it where you can enjoy it most of the time.... THE Family ROOM :D . Or where ever the main TV is. the basement should be used for equipment room only.

You should space it at least 4 inches away from the wall. The only reason that I say this is that there is a tack strip that holds the carpet in place. Its usually only .5 to 3 inches away from the wall but you dont want the back of the tank stand sitting on this as it would be harder for you to level the tank. And you will probably void your tank warranty.

Good call. Tack strip is probably over a 1/4" thick. Don't want the stand on that. Commercial strip is 1 1/2" wide and is atleast a 1/2" off the wall. There is a small gap between the strip and the pad as well. So in a carpeted room, 3" minimum, 4" to be safe.

nah my basement will be the Family room, I'm done having tanks on my upper floors. sound of mind makes for a good nights sleep =)

i will be finishing my whole basement.

not sure what you use your basement for but IMHO its not just for equipment or for storage. it is what you make of it. not just use it for a place to throw things. =)

That was the tough position I was in. Put the tank in the living room were we would see it all the time or in the office basement and only see it once in awhile. I decided on the basement. It was the best decision for me because I have an entire fish room behind the tank that makes life WAY TO EASY. I intentially throw water on the concrete floor and dont have to care. But on the other hand, the tank is like a hidden treasure in the house.

What every you do, try to have ample working room for the tank. A fish room behind or below. It just makes life so much easire.
