im getting 2 golden dwarf eels once my tank build is finished and i just was wondering something. i have a column tank tank and i will be placing pvc in the tank for them bc the LR im using is one solid piece and i dont want to risk the chance of breaking it by drilling it. the pvc will be ushaped around the rock and under the sandbed, it will come out of the sandbed at two places. it will look a bit like this.

quick pic i made in pain lol :-P

so my question is what size pvc should i use? i dont want to make it to thin so i can just swim into it, but i dont want to make it so thick so its huge and not comfortable/homey for them. anyone have a size suggestions?

also if anyone has any other good suggestions for a eel "cave" for both of the eels let me know if my idea is bad.

I used 1.5" schedule 80 PVC for the tunnel system I made when I had eels...worked out good. I used socket weld fittings and just didn't glue them together, that way they can be easily taken apart if need be.

ok thanks :-)

is my design ok? or is the "u" shape a bad idea??

Eels will wrap around into the shape of your tunnel, as long as their body is enclosed and they feel safe. When I used to keep them they would dig tunnels through sand and rockwork and would take advantage of whatever they could for protection.

Also, is there a way you could use some small rocks as shims to rest that monster rock on? Just curious if that could help.

i might be able to but that would be like super risky. that rock is so heavy if one of the lower rocks was bumped or something it could go tumbling into the glass.
