im getting 2 golden dwarf eels once my tank build is finished and i just was wondering something. i have a column tank tank and i will be placing pvc in the tank for them bc the LR im using is one solid piece and i dont want to risk the chance of breaking it by drilling it. the pvc will be ushaped around the rock and under the sandbed, it will come out of the sandbed at two places. it will look a bit like this.
quick pic i made in pain lol

so my question is what size pvc should i use? i dont want to make it to thin so i can just swim into it, but i dont want to make it so thick so its huge and not comfortable/homey for them. anyone have a size suggestions?
also if anyone has any other good suggestions for a eel "cave" for both of the eels let me know if my idea is bad.
