Hey guys.. tank's been up and running for about a year. Faced just about every problem in this hobby. I think it's time I deal with my ich issue.
long story short: I didn't QT all my fish. Had ich for well over 4-5 months. Seen spots here and there but it would go away. After introducing the Tang (of course), major outbreak. I upped feeding and made ich remedy food. Helped them all survive the last outbreak. Back to normal now.
so I got a 125gal tall tank. 24x24x48. I plan to turn it into a seahorse tank later. As of now, I'm going to use it as a QT. I don't want to stress out any fish and have ich breakout again. I plan to leave 2 fish traps inside and take out a few fish every month. Whoever's caught goes through TTM. Eventually the 125 will be fish only QT and my 140 will be corals only.
I don't plan on tearing down the rock structure because I've invested much more in coral & anemone. If they start moving, I'm screwed
few concerns:
1) all my fish are <2" except for the blue tang and 1spot Foxface. both at 4". Will the Tall Tank be too much stress for the Tang for 72 days? I have a few 20gals. But I'd rather have them in 1 tank.
2) Will my coral tank, now with only inverts and corals, be ok without a skimmer for 72 days? I will feed inverts only. Or should I buy another skimmer for the QT tank.
3) I suspect my Yasha Goby had died for month.. he made a home next to my carpet. but I used to only see him once every few months. I would hate to finish 72 days just to see him in there. If I stop feeding the tank and only monitor feeding my snails, would the fish starve out and search for food? or stress and die? I have always over fed my fish so I have no clue..
4) what do I do with my mandarin. People say they are ok agains ich with their thick coat. I don't think he will survive a new tank. is he ok to leave in the ich tank? or do I need to sell him? would the new buyer require to QT?
thanks all! this is going to be a long battle..
