Question on bta

Would a bta be ok in a 30 gal reef tank with 2x96 watt pcs? The pcs are 10 months old, but from what I've read there ok till abuot 12 to 18 months. Should I practice with a condy to see if I can keep it alive, or are they harder to keep than bta's? Ive read bta's are one of the easyer ones to keep. My perameters are good nitrates at 5 ppm though, and tank has been set up about 6 months now.

I know there are plenty of folks that keep BTA's under Pc lights, but, I am not a fan of that. I believe they will live, but not flourish. This has been a source of argument for quite a long time. I believe that you should give the animal all the chance to do as good as is metaphysically possible. I just don't believe you can do that with those lights.

There will be plenty on here who disagree, and that's OK too. All opinions should be weighed and then a decision can be made based on a consensus.

I do know that if you decide to house a BTA in your set-up that I would not wait to change out my bulbs. I had PC's for a couple of years and never got more than a year of "Good" spectrum out of them.

I have my bulbs on a 6 month switch out basis, but I'm working with 4x96W PC. That way I never have super old bulbs, I keep the lighting pretty consistent, I never have bulbs older than 12 months, and I keep the bulb replacement cost staggered so it doesn't sting as much.

I would reccomend waiting until you switch out bulbs at the least to get the nem. It can't hurt to wait a few weeks for an animal that is going to live with your for years.

Thanks for the input. I will wait untill I get new bulbs or upgrade lights to t-5's or mh. In the mean time it will give me more to study up on the bta's. Thanks again.
