Question on cycling????

I'm new to the forum thing so I hope I have posted this in the right place.
Ok I started my cycle with LR and LS. I do believe the cycle was so short that I did not see the ammonia spike but my nitrats have, from everything I have read I don't believe it was a good enough cycle to get any good bacteria to grow so I have started ghost feeding to get my ammonia to spike and start the cycle. The store I have purchased my tank at does not know as much as I had hoped. She told me to feed with reef bugs. Is that ok? Should I keep feeding till my ammonia and nitrats are good, and if so how long after that sould I do a water Change. I am on three weeks of cycle just started the reef bugs last night. My tank is 46 gal. I am feeding 1/2 teaspoon. To much,not enough,and how often?

No experience with reef bugs. Was your LR and LS already actually alive or did you buy the rock dry and sand in the bag? If it was from an already established system a short cycle is possible.

You might want to try the piece of table shrimp in the system to decay and kick off the cycle.

Then it is full of bacteria. And could be fully cycled.

Thanks pife, what would you suggest I do stop feeding and just watch my levels till they reach 0. Help please!

An extra week probably would be safer. Keep up the feeding and testing.
