Questions about a product ????

Hey MD,

Just a quick clarification for me if you please.

I'm interested in your deluxe aluminum hood system and was wondering a few things about the package.

1. It says on the website that all lamps are included does this
mean I get to pick the bulbs wattage and kelvin rating or is it
just a standard set of bulbs. (I am looking at purchasing on of
the higher wattage upgrades)

2. If it is a standard set of bulbs can I just pay the difference to
have the bulbs I want in the set up. Rather than having a set
that I don't want and have to purchase a new set to get what
I want.

3. What is the average shipping time on this fixture (from you to
me). I'm not going to hold you to this but an estimate would be
nice. Is this included in the build time mentioned on the site.

4. In the PC fixture how many bulbs are in the fixture. 2 or 4

5. And finally.......  What wattage of MH would
you recommend for a AGA 75 gal if I want to keep SPS, clams,a
wide variety of Softies and various other corals and anemones

Sorry this is a long list but I want to make sure of what I am getting before I spend close to a thousand dollars on something.

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your inquiry. The hoods come standard with 175 watt 5500K bulbs. If you scroll down further on the webpage you will see a listing for bulb/ballast upgrades that are available. Do not forget this is a per bulb/ballast upgrade, so for a two bulb metal halide system you would need to upgrade both bulbs/ballasts (basically change the quantity from one to two for the upgrade option in the shopping cart).

Usually it takes 3-5 business days to build the system and 4-5 business days for standard ground shipping to Pittsburgh.

If you choose the MH/PC fixture it will include two 7100K blue PC bulbs for you.

For a standard 75 gallon tank SPS tank, 250 watt metal halides usually work excellent. Generally for tanks under 18" deep 175 watt MH bulbs are recommended, 18-24" deep 250 watt and 24" and over 400 watt bulbs.

Thanks Argi,

One last question.....If I get the 250W Upgrades and Bulbs, and later I get a deeper tank will I just be able to buy the upgrade or am I going to have to get a different fixture.

I should be ordering within the next two weeks.

Ed

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the upgrade price is just at the time of purchase. If you later wanted to go to 400 watt bulbs, you need need to buy new ballasts and bulbs.

I also forgot to mention, the fixture comes standard with a single fan. It is recommended to upgrade to a second fan for 250 watt and 400 watt bulbs.

If there is anything else we can do for you do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Keith M.

Thanks Argi,

I figured in the cost of the fans to what I was expected to pay. But I appreciate the effort to stop any surprises from springing out on me.

I really appreciate the customer service and will be placing my order for that fixture soon.

Do you think that the 6500 K bulbs will be good for the clams and corals.

Ed

Hi Ed,

The 6500K bulbs will do well for them, but for many people these can be a little more yellow than they like. Our most popular bulbs tend to be the 10000K bulbs when using actinic or blue supplemental lighting. You can check out pictures of different bulbs here http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_lighting_metal_halide_bulbs_information.asp?CartId=

The color temperature of the bulb (or K rating) will all depend on what you like to see in the tank.

Thanks for the link...I didn't see that the first time. I really like that Iwaski look. So I think I'm going to order them. It looks more natural to me.

Ed

Thanks for all the help

Argi,

Does that fixture have dual power cords....and are the 6500k bulbs MV or MH...Several people here said that I would experience a loss in productivity if I ran MV on MH Ballasts.

Do you have any comments on this. I really like this fixture and the more i read about it the more I like it but I need these questions answered.

Ed

Hi Ed,

There will be two plugs, one for the metal halide bulbs and one for the PC bulbs. I was reading over the bulb and it states they contain mercury, which would lead me to believe they are MV. I run my 6500K Iwaskai off an Ice Cap ballast and it seems to work well. PFO also makes an EYE ballast that is meant to fire these bulbs, from our website "EYE ballasts are for use with Iwasaki 6500K Metal Halide Bulbs ONLY. Standard Metal Halide Ballast are also capable of powering Iwasaki 6500K Metal Halide Bulbs."

If there is anything else we can do for you do not hesitate to ask.
