Questions about my clam

I have had my clam for almost 3 years with no problems. Lately he looks as if he cant close all the way. I have been reading about pinched mantle and he looks like he might be suffering from that, but I have not read anything about the clams not being able to close all the way. My water is good, now. I guess I was having some troubles because I got some red slime in the tank, but I dont know if that has anything to do with the clam as I have had it before and it never effected the clam. I know this thread is usless without pictures, but has anyone experienced a clam not being able to close all the way? Any remidies? I will try and get some pictures when I get home from work and the lights are on......

Barry Nigut at clams direct dot com is considered the clam expert of America. He has done lots of research on pinched mantle and has found that fresh water dips do wonders for the problem. Check him out.

Ask Barry but if you have not added any new clams probably you are fine. My gigas will not close all the way, even when I move it around, maybe it's used to me I can take it out of the water and it doesnt's close.

My crocea is the same way.

You will know if you have PM. If the mantle extends fine, then your clam should be good.
