Moved this to a new thread as its kinda a different question now.

For those of you on well water. What do you have to make your water drinkable and ready for tanks? The water I smelled today was pretty sulfury (is that a word) and seemed to have a lot of iron in it. I talked to a septic/pumbing/water softening company today and they were talking about it costing $2500ish to put in and $15-20 a month for clorine and salt. Anyone have any better ideas? We turned on the shower today and I smelled the sulfur from the other room. I am guessing that the stuff that sits in the pipes is going to be more stinky, but between that and the iron content I will need to do something before I am there too long. I also heard that I cannot simply run the well water into the RO/DI as it will quickly take out the charcol filter and need replacement all the time.

SOOOOOOO, who knows the dirt!

(ps, also need a telephone poll for a poll barn in the near future)

Some reads of mine as we have sulfur in our well water:

We've been in our house for 5 years and have had no ill effects from our water. Our pond and freshwater tanks are healthy and the fish fat and happy. We use the water straight from the tap (from a well on the Geneva Bubble) for filling the freshwater tanks with no negative effects. Lots of folks out here live to be over 100. so my guess is the water can't be that bad. Now, in other areas where other pollutants are more prevalent, there might be more worries. Can the UF ag department help with testing? They have a phenomenal program that I've utilized in the past.

We have an ion exchange bottle on our well. Recharges with potassum by a time clock. Pretty much trouble free. Your small RO units will go to pieces with the amount of sulpher in florida water.

it all really depends on the content in the water. I was on a well for years and at one point I had some serious issues. I ended up doubling my Prefilter, Carbon and DI and they would burn up in a month. TFC was replaced every 6 months
