whats the best stuff to use to bond acrylic togetor to make acrylic boxes im thinking of adding a internel overflow to a tank and was trying to figure how you seam the panels togetor to make them watertight any info would be apprieciated thanks

You need to use acrylic solvents to do this.
Weld-On #4 is a liquid the consistency of alcohol and is what is used to bond aquariums together to create those perfect seams. It's tough to work with if you've never used it before and the vapors are pretty dangerous stuff.

Weld-On #16 is a thick goo solvent. I use it to put a bead on the inside joints of anything I build. This stuff is a lot easier to work with and could probably meet your needs since it's only an overflow box you're building and not huge load bearing tank.

Check your area for a plastics supply store or acrylic place...You can also buy it on line.

Weld-on is an Austrailian product I believe. Just go to your local plastics dealer and tell them what you are doing. They will sell you some cyno-acrylic solvent.

If they are out of stock on needle solvent bottles just head over to a Rockler woodworking store, they sell them for about $3.00.

Practice first and don't pull all th eprotective paper off, just what you need to glue.

Don't worry about sanding too much, just get it good then finish off by flame polishing (practice first). Your job will come out looking great.

Look up Plastics in your Yellow Pages.

For example, I got my supply from Total Plastics in Elk Grove....run a search in here for it...you'll find at least half a dozen threads on people trying to find it locally and a list of places.

i landed up ordering it online ill see how it works want to practice doing it i got weldon 3 and 16 and the applicator bottle il research local dealers to find a source here thanks guys

For building boxes and sumps, I typically use Weld On #4 to join everything then I run a bead of 16 the next day for extra security.
