I'm new to SPS and never kept one but it would be cool to keep some because they are so colorful. Ok can you guys give me some info and I have 2 specific questions. How many watts per gallon and why is a bare bottom tank better for SPS corals? Thanks!!! :D

Watts per gallon is a bad rule for lighting. It doesnt take into acount depth and type of lighting and there are lots of other factors that come into play. What size tank and lighting did you have in mind?

I agree 100%. You should start by posting what you've got and work from there. You might also consider posting similar questions in the Chicagoland Marine Aquarium Society (CMAS) forum

There are quite a few experienced reefers in the Naperville/Aurora/Plainfield area....and most are willing to help out with advice if asked....give it a try...and good luck.

opening up a can a worms are you...LOL. There are many ways to do a tank. With sand and with out. Done correctly both will flourish. That being said, BB allows for massive amounts of flow, which generally, most agree, is better for SPS.
