Our clowns just started spawning a few months back. Each time they've eaten the eggs as they've spawned. But this last time they actually left a few. There's four in there, and I can see little eyes reflecting back at me :) It's pretty neat, I'm kind of sad we can't raise them.

So, my quick question is: how long does it take for them to hatch? Are there signs to look for to show they're ready?

Joyce Wilkerson's book has been recommend, but I don't have it...yet!

Thanks!

when they have the silvery eyes they are about to hatch, they will on the 8th night after they were laid hours after lights out.

I'm seeing silvery eyes :) Unfortuantely, I didn't expect any to make it this far, so I didn't try to remember the day they laid them :( I know they won't make it in my tank, but it would be neat to watch them hatch...

the eggs turn silvery too. Thats the time to move them.

Pick up the Joyce Wilkerson book if you wanna give it a try

Her book is on my list :)

I know we don't have time to try it right now, but I don't know if we even should. The pair we have seem to be CB, and I assume they're from the same batch. I don't know that I could produce a better clown than is out there with the one genetic line I have, so I think I've talked myself out of trying to raise the fry at a later point. I just like to know that things are working right, hoping this is an indicator of happy and healthy fish.

Thanks for the help!

If you want to try and raise them, well when they hatch ('at night' in the tank) take the pair of clowns out (or try) and take a flash light and hang it over the tank. Then have another ~5 gallon aquarium with a air stone in it, ready to go with SW (already in it). Then sifon them out of the display and have he phytoplankton or what ever the babies eat (I forget) and raise them from there. The tank will need a LOW water flow with some kind of filtration. And make 1/2 gallon changes every two weeks.
