quick plumbing question

can anyone tell me how much water the different bulkheads will flow. I know a 1" flows around 600 gallons per hours but cant find much info on the others IE" 1 1/2, and 2"

thanks

PS my goals is this. I have a dart pump. I have two 1" over flows which wont keep up. I want to drill one of them so that together they can keep up. I need to know if I should turn one of them into a 1 1/2" or a 2".

Can't help with the bulkheads, but FWIW (and your mileage may vary), my return pump is a Dart and I'm running 3 2" returns for it. 2 2" returns keeps up with it but is LOUD.

I know I have at least 900 gph going through my 1.5 bulkhead. I also have a diamond bit for it if you need to borrow one.

3 x 2" wow, are you using straight stand pipes or durso?

Easiest to just post pictures :)

The other end where it drops into the sump:

Not really sure if they're durso's per se...I just built a silencer, maybe it's the same design (don't know that I've ever really looked at the real plans for one).

Also there is a drain size calculator on the home page. Just punched in 1200gph and it said 1.43". Looks like we posted at the same time.

There's a maximum pipe flow rate chart at the bottom of this link:

http://www.russellwatergardens.com/pipe.htm#flow rates

I know that a bulkhead has more friction than standard pvc pipe, but it may get you in the ballpark.

Hope it helps.

that is exactly what i wanted. thanks.
it seems to be for a pipe under max preasure but it gives ma a starting point

you will lose flow as it goes through the durso so you can't say ok a 2 inch will flow so many gallons and that is what I need when you are talking a specific pipe size. I don't know how much loss there is but it is there and to me it seems significant. to get it really quiet and make it flow as much as the bulkhead size you have to up the durso pipesize and the drain pipe size. if not the turbulence through the bends causes alot more flow loss. like a 1 inch bulkhead should be immediately converted to 1 1/2 inch pipe and fittings on both sides of the bulkhead. 1 1/4 is do-able but you will normally hear the turbulence in the pipe as it drains. 1 1/2 is just better in my experience. you must drill a breather in the top of the stand pipe or it will siphon and suck the water until it breaks and gurgles. under the tank right when the water starts to fall toward your sump/sock it should also be stepped up a size or 2. 1 1/2 to 2 inch with a standpipe and breather. if you don't go up in size it will backup and possibly shoot water out of the breather. if you don't put a breather it may create a suction and noise. you want the water to dump into the sump underwater to prevent excess noise.
I have been to matt/luminaries house and his plumbing is very quiet. matt I think you followed the way gregt did his since you saw his right? it is somewhat like a durso in principal but then again not exactly the same. both seem to work as well as the other. I did durso's

That's possible...I honestly can't remember how he has his set up. I'm pretty sure he didn't need the silencers on both sides of the plumbing though.

I had to go with the wye's because of space. I couldn't have fit an elbow and just the tee was still too noisy.
