quick QT question

I have a dumb quick question:

Would adding a small airpump to the system be harmful in any way? I have the airline tubing going into some PVC to kind of dispurse the bubbles. The bubbles aren't small - no airstones or anything, just air being pumped into the system - similar to a fresh water set-up.

My system is a 20 long with a simple Aquaclear HOB filter, a MJ1200 powerhead, heater and some PVC fittings. Lighting is a 4 bulb T5 HO retrofit kit but the bulbs are beat and I have no desire to change them.

I was just wondering if the airpump would try to skim out any medications or cause any other issues. I thought it would be a good idea to add one for the simple fact of adding oxygen.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I didn't think it would hurt, but there was a little voice in my head telling me to double check since I have over $100 worth of fish in there right now.

Todd - put the air line into the intake section of the Aquaclear, that way anything that does attach to the bubbles will hit the sponge in the bottom of the tray. Also, if you're running a top on your QT like me (stoopid cats), bubbles in the display tank will burst and salt creep will start to be a real PITA. FWIW, I just like the keep the water level a little low in the tank, so the waterfall from the Aquaclear can draw in a good deal of O2.

Yeah, I have a glass top on there - tank is set-up really low to the floor just temporarily till I get all of my fish in. Didn't think about running the air into the HOB. I'll give that a shot, I need to change the sponge soon anyway, so I'll clean the filter while I'm at it.

Thanks Chris.
