Quick rant

Good thing for QT.....BUT.......a club member intentionally sold me an expensive colony at the swap that was infested with Montipora eating nudibranchs, after I asked him directly if he had ever had them. He made a comment about that 's why he always had wrasses, and I should have read between those lines....but since he was C-sea, I trusted him. All of my corals went into the same tank for observation, so I was at least able to catch it pretty quick, but i'll probably lose the coral, and none of the coral in that tank can ever live in a tank that might someday have montipora in it.

This sucks!!!

Mostly because it was part of a batch that was to start replacing the montis we lost a few years ago that came in on a non-monit coral (so we just thought it was detrius)

SO disappointed that one club member would do that to another!!!

I dipped all of mine with the Tropic Marin that C-SEA was selling. Thanks to the club for that! I saw tons of red flatworms coming out of certain frags and others had some spidery looking things that could have been zoa eating spiders but I didn't bother trying to ID them I just nuked them with the coral cure.

Sorry to hear you got stiffed on that deal but at least you were wise enough to not just dump them in the display.

I am glad that it wasn't me that you were ranting about when I started reading.

was that in the real big bucket you got ? sorry to hear that ,,,sometime money wins over honesty, friendships and that stinks from a fellow reefer too. all reefers know how much we obsess and freak on our tanks when stuff is not just so , not to mention the money that is spent on our corals, fish, supplies to keep it up right , dont do him/her any favors ........

In 2 hours I am flipping on the switch on my Levasole flatworm trial on my last system that still has them. It's rumored to also kill these parasites.

I can just add another loop in a 10 gallon tank and give it a whirl.
If you believe the coral is going to die anyway what can it hurt?

PM if you want to leave coral to see if it can be saved. Since it's supposed to work I'd be interested to see.

Since I will have a batch up consider an invite to shuttle it here and I can give it a bash. Apparently from this link http://www.qualitymarineusa.com/article.asp?page=feature&id=FA22AE9A-A335-4F27-A5C5-0913F83DCB60 it takes 10 hours or more.

I'm going to try the toothbrush and cursing method tonight and tomorrow, but if it doesn't help, I just may take you up on your offer....thanks!!

It seems some will do anything to make a buck in the hobby. What a bust out this member must be. Like the dirty dish award I AWARD THE DIRTY REEF AWARD to the csea member. You should post their name so the rest of us can know not to deal with them.

While employing the cursing/toothbrush removal technique I also found a ton of bubble algae, maybe redbugs (I don't have sps in this qt) and a terrifying zoanthid eating spider, and it was just as scary as any spider you'd find lurking in your shower at 6am.....and out of the water...pods are bugs....creepy crawly bugs.

Glad I QTd, and I hope this is a reminder to those that don't, that they might want to get in the habit.

Yikes. I know of the bucket you speaketh of. My son and I were oggling it ourselves. I even pointed it out to him when I saw it was gone.

That does indeed suck.

Sorry to hear you got a bad deal! I guess I'm not too knowledgable about coral pests. What do these "nudibranchs" look like? I found out they are mollusks but that does me little good. I'd like to know what all to watch for when getting frags/colonies because right now I would have no clue.

QT wins again at least. I didn't see anything come off my corals in the dip (thanks again for the club having some for sale!) but darn it's scary adding new things to a tank knowing that all this stuff is out there each time.

Ouch, you're scarin' the crap outta me. I bought corals from like 10 different peeps and like a dumb-ss I just plunked them in my display tank....except for some eggcrate that was crawling with flatworms and algae. I'm gonna have to keep an eye on the new corals and definitely setup a quarantine tank. Thanks for the heads-up.

Wow thats a shame... I dipped my frags also. i used TMPCC. On my zoas i just did a ro/di freshwater dip.

Going back to your flatworms in question... have you tried the salifert flatworm exit? If not i heard of alot of reefers that use interceptor treatment that has gotten rid of many of the nasty flatworms that nothing seems to get them.

I've had pretty good luck with FE in the past, the trick is to triple-ish the dose, do a few massive water changes, and then repeat like a week later. I also had good luck with a spotted mandarin, though I'm not sure which was the real success.

Definitely not cool. I rank these as the #1 worst pest to get in your tank, having suffered a wipe from them years ago. Try this article, mentions using a dip at the end: http://www.reeffarmers.com/tracygraynudi01.htm

I spent half the day Saturday with each frag of mine and a toothbrush removing algae so I could check for pests. I do my best to only sell pest free frags, but mileage between reefers will vary.

Two things to keep in mind there... one, not all reefers can ID pests. I can pick out a baby majano in a colony of GSPs, but not everyone can. Two, not all reefers agree on pest status. For example, many people consider amphipods pests now because of this expensive zoanthid nonsense. Considering that amphipods are the #2 detrivore in all of our systems, I find that a bit absurd. Ditto for bristleworms. My chaeto has bristles in it. They are a fantastic detrivore, and other than making you wear gloves or scaring you if you find a bigg'un, I'd never consider them a pest.

That being said, anyone not considering monti eating nudis a pest is high on something. Glad you QTd and hope you manage to kill them off.

S !
