Quiet One 4000 Pump problem

Hello everyone. I have a little problem with a quiet one 4000 pump. The pump stops working after I unplug it and plug it back in (has a humming noise). I have to tap it to get it restarted. I did a little search and found out this pump has some known issues and doesn’t always start. Some suggested to clean it up. My problem is I cannot take the intake cap off to clean the inside and the propeller. It seems to be too tight to turn, and I don’t wanna break it. Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks.

They tend to overheat and swell up, might have to use a little force. My guess is the impellar magnet is swelling and might need replacing. Same issue with mag drives but quiet one seems to have them more often.

i tried one of those pumps and it was junk, loud and got so hot that i couldnt touch it. it almost fried my tank. imo ditch it and try another brand since its the heart of your circulation.

I was able to open the cover up and found a cracked magnet. I agree they are not the best thing out there, but i was just using it to run my scwd. replaced the pump and everything is running fine.
Thanks for all the help guys.

A lot of times the pumps are designed to be running while submersed. If the pumps run out of water, they will get hot and either the magnet cracks or the plastic piece used as the spin axle will melt.

Mag pumps react similiarly.
