Anyone use the Quikrete brand of sand for their tanks? I'm thinking of taking out my CC and puting about 2" of this stuff in. The thing I'm not sure about is the color, there is a "sand" color type that looks white in peoples pics and there is a white colored play sand. Points of view on the color would be appreciated. Thanks

Quikrete sand is not what you want to use in your tank. It contains high levels of silica which is not good for your tank. If you have an H-D or Lowes around go out in the garden section usually in the back of the lot and look for the blue and clear bags of Kolorscape play sand. Take some vinegar with you and put some of the sand in the vinegar, it should fizz. Not like you shook a coke and opened the bottle, but you should see bubbles rise. It is usually less then 4.00 for a bag.

Have you had a problem with silica, from what im reading on the forums it seems to be a wives tale of some sort. But I will look into the kolorscape, and thanks.

the kolorscape in the blue and clear bag that i bought did not fizz at all. so its now used for making plugs hehe

I was at HD and figured i'd look around and found that kolorscape sand looks good pretty fine. 8 bucks for 120lbs.
