Quite and dependable return pump

I'm looking to change my return pump I currently have an Iwaki 55 and tho it is dependable it is much too loud. I have been off the board for awhile so I'm not sure what pumps are in favor at the moment and people are having success with.

I would like to keep the 1" intake and 1" return being that is how my current plumbing is configured.

TIA for any input

I do not need super strong pump as far flow is concerned. I'm currently throttling the iwaki back.

go with a smaller iwaki, japanese motor. the smaller ones do not have a fan and thus are immensely quieter.

Eheim 1262 is incredibly quiet. Its only rated at 900 GPH though.

Cheers

i second the eheim. I'm going with the 1262 on a 120. Should be just right because all you want is 3-5x turnover in the sump.

Thanks guys.

I didn't know ehiem built return pumps. I have one on my CA reactor but I didn't know they scaled up to a return pump. I'll ckeck them out.

I was also thinking about a smaller Iwaki but was not sure if there would be a noticable sound difference. I have never had a problem with Iwaki in 5 + years so I like the dependability.

I'm not aware of the fan mod. Is there a link on RC regarding this?

Thanks everyone and it is great to know RC is still a great place to get advice!!!
