Ok, my question... I'm upgrading my tank to a 70gal oceanic and I want to steer away from using an emperor as I have been for years. It is easy to take the filter out after every few days and rince the nitrate creating dirt. The con with this is the splashing on my hqi and anything around the opening the tank despite how high I make my water level.
I've been to the store a few times and they've recommended a Eheim pro wet/dry canister filter. It's a little over $500CDN with tax and i'm also worried that they may pollute the tank over the long haul.
I've heard of people running tanks without mechanical filtration and only rock/skimmer. This would be very nice but I still would riquire a way (low maintenance) to clear the water when I turkey baste all my rocks and such.
Is there anything you all would recommend?
