Bummer! I just found out this morning that my Coral my coral beauty made the leap of death last night onto the lonley dry carpet. She was the only big fish I had and really the focal point of the tank being the largest fish. I was wondering if anyone had a larger sized fish that would be ok in a 55 gallon they want to sell or just get rid off. Or any suggestions on a larger size fish that would be ok in a 55? I would by a another coral beauty but I also would maybe like to try something new. Thanks Brandon

Not the most colorful, but I like a lawnmower blenny for "personality".

Royal Gramma is a well behaved and affordable fish.

Any way to put some egg crate around the top of the tank to keep it from happening again?

yea I have been thinking about building a canopy I think nows the time to start drawing it up. Not sure if I want to put halides in it or I have been thinking real hard about retro fitting T5 lately. As far as fish I already have a tailspot blenny I'm not sure how 2 blennies will do in that small of a space? I had a royal gramma a long time ago and I liked him alot.

I wish! My tank is only a 55 gallon to small for a tang. Unless there are some that dont require as much room? But I have yet to find one.

on live aquaria there are some that are a little overated on room there is a tang on there cant quite remember name but it only gets to be 6 inches id imagine it doesnt need quite as much room as the big ones 55 gallons should be fine

A 6" tang in a 55 isn't a good idea at all in my opinion. I think a 55 gallon is one of those tanks that should be left as a freshwater tank. At only 13", they're very hard to aquascape and light, and they become very cramped quickly making it even difficult for a tang to turn around depending on how things are setup.

There are a lot better options for a tank of that size.

+1 RokleM I would have never got a 55 if it wasnt a steal on the set up and I was coming from a 29 gal so I snatched it. But if I had it my way it would be a 75 due to it being a little wider. Any suggestions on fish?

I have a Longnose Hawkfish in my 53gallon. GREAT personality !! Always out in the open, and he comes right up to me when I go near the tank or put my hand into it. I think they get up to 4" long.

Currently I have
1-true perc
1-tail spot blenny
1- green mandarine (trained to eat frozen)
1- brittle star (which i rarely see)

I was thinking of adding 3 green chromis and a opossum wrasse(after the tank gets covered) then calling it quits for fish. I kinnda want at least one fish that isn't as popular of a fish like the opossum wrasse. Any suggestions on a rarely used aquarium fish that likes the open water?

I have also considered another clown but, the true perc has been in there for a long time and I'm not looking to have any rumbles.

IME the 3 chromis will eventualy end up as 1. One of my favorites is the orchid dotty. Which shouldn't have issues with the others.

IMO nope.

Anthias (if your up to feeding) or Bangaiis may be your best bet if you can get them to eat. They swim together I don't consider it schooling though.
