Rainbow Flower Pot?

I Was told this was a rainbow flower pot and cant get any polyp extension no matter where I put it in the tank. All my other flower pots are completely open. I am now noticing white blotchy spots appearing, what can I do to save this coral? Where should I put it as far as lighting and flow goes?

Ok so I like the flowerpots... and that said they do well in my tank on the floor. lots of light and medium flow seems to keep them happy.

I just made this video so you can see the flow on mine.. but i have to say ahead of time... the lights have already gone off for the evening and they were mostly closed up for the night. I turned them back on for the purposes of this post just to capture the video.

Thanks for the video and the information. by the look of this piece in the pic, it looks like a flowerpot right? I had it medium - top of the tank when it started getting the white spots so ill move it to the sand bed and see if that can get any extension.

I have never had any luck with flower pots, but someone once told me they harbor some worm or something like that and they should be dipped. I never tried it as everyone I know can't really keep them alive. Did you dip it? and if so, did anything come out?

i didnt dip, maybe ill try that.

To me it does not look like a gonipora/flower pot. It looks much more like a montipora, porites, or cyphastrea, did it have polyp extension when you bought it? If it was one of the three that I previously mentioned then it looks relatively happy. That being said it is hard to get a positive I'd with that photo.

It is a Goni. I have a similar one not a rainbow but it is similar. It's red with yellow eyes. Took a while to open up. Did not like any nitrates.. My tank was going thru a little tiff with n03 at 15-20 and it was all closed up like yours. Trates dorm to a manageable level <10 and it's doing good. Doesn't really open like normal Goni though more squat and likes lower light and medium flow. I will try to post some pics if I find it of when I got it and recent.

When I first got it

More recent. Sorry for the crap photos lol. It looks like yours if I move it around. It's been encrusting nicely even with the clown goby living on it.

That must be what it is then! I had an anemone release a bunch of toxins in the water about 3 weeks ago and my tank hasnt been 100% yet so im sure my nitrate is a little higher then normal at the moment, Ill maybe throw some denitrte in a reactor the speed up the recovery and see how it does.
