Raising MG causing STN

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for providing such a vast amount of info for people like myself. But now I have a problem and I'm not too sure what is causing it. I need helpage lol

So as the title says, I've been battling Byopsis for the last few months and it's starting to smother my SPS . So I did some research and I've found people have had luck with raising their Mg specifically with Kent tech M product.

So over the last few days, I've been bumping it up. I started around 1250 and Now I'm at 1400ish using a brand new Elos kit.

Here is what I've observed in the last few days. Some of my acros have started the dreaded STN, no deaths yet, but watching all this growth and encrusting melt away is frustrating. I also don't want to frag my colonies as they are all nice sizes. Colour is not an issue. One of my red monti caps have the grow edge turning powdery and clothing, although it is not receding in any way or form. I had this same issue with months a few month back, but it was due to low ALK and ca.

I also noticed that my leather is starting to melt as well.

The only real thing is that I've raised my Mg recently and I change all 10 of my bulbs on my light. I did so over the course of a 2 weeks, so I don't thing it's a light problem.

Parameters

Ca 380
ALK 7.5
Mg 1400
PO4 0.00-0.03

I just did a 15g water change and I'm stopping the Mg dosing.

Anyone have experienced similar problems while dosing kent Mg to battle byopsis? Any advice as to what to do?

thanks

did you check your salinity? remember, you are adding salt. i have done this as well
and experienced similar results.

Yes, thank you, I forgot to add that my SG is 1.024 refractometer.

My system consist of about 220g so it does stay pretty stable SG wise.

I'm going to re-calibrate and double check just incase.

thanks for the reply

I almost killed my entire tank with mg. I dont know why but after getting the mag levels up i started losing everything. I dont touch the stuff now except a very tiny dose here and there.

Ouch, i hope I'm not experiencing the same thing.

I just double checked my SG and it's 1.024 as usual. Calibrated with ro water.
I've also just performed another 20g water change. I'm hoping the stn stops soon!

Anyone else?
