I have 2 leathers in my mixed reef... one of which has never seemed to thrive. Recently I noticed it had pulled away from the rock it was on, and a small shell was "stuck" to its foot/base. I pulled the leather out of the tank and, sure enough, it was a shell. I pulled the shell off the coral and realized that it was actually a snail, and that snail had left a hole up through the center of the coral.
A little research led me to Rapa Incurva - a snail that eats leathers from the inside.
So, my question... Is simply removing the shell with the snail inside sufficient? Most of the info I was able to find was general, not specific to the animal in a reef tank setting.
TIA.
