Rare monti caps.

i guess i am not sure what you mean.

they come in a pretty wide array of colors but generally the familiar ones, sometimes with different color edges or polyps, and generally
all grow in the same swirly plate like pattern. they also grow like a weed and therefore pretty
plentiful.

perhaps i just have not seen the rare ones and welcome the surprising pics too!

Their are some I have never seen, for example this reeftech one I recently was introduced to. I would like to see others people feel are rare or LE, never know what you will come across.

Disregard this post, went back and saw you were asking for monti caps. My pics don't apply to that category :p

Leng Sy cap I believe it becoming more rare, due to a number of factors.

Sadly mine did not make the switch from T5 to MH.

i believe this is similar to the ATL pink polyp cap. for the longest time it was army green with bright pink polyps, until i switched from an old magnetic ballast to a new electronic ballast. then it turned purple with pink polyps. being shaded under the loripes is keeping it green, but in the areas exposed to the 400w 20k....my camera is obviously failing to capture the true colors, but i swear its true!

ron, all the caps in your pics look to me to be pretty much common more or less.
the pic that stoneyj33 posted though.. never saw that one before.
not to take anything away from your caps though. i have probably 2 of them in my tank as i type
this. the yellowish one looks to be a green cap with blue polyps that is getting a lot of light and
has lightened up? where is it growing up the side of the tank, and therefore less light, is probably
the true color in most tanks?

I have two Montipora caps in my reef (not rare, just colorful)....and unfortunately, they are both starting to take up too much of my existing reef real-estate.

The first colony is the Tyree Strawberry Patch followed by the Tyree Idaho Grape.

Not a "cap" because we don't get 'em, but nonetheless, does a highlighter yellow plating Monti 12 ours off the reef count?

^^^ That yellow thing is something. If I understood you correctly and it was just harvested it will be interesting to see if you can get it to stay that brilliant yellow or turns green.

Aquavista99, your strawberry looks great. Ive never been able to get mine to look that good.

I'll send you a cap across the world for a frag of this anyday!!

Haha, unfortunately our greatest asset is also our greatest weakness - in having the GBRMP right there we get amazing coral, but the government is incredibly strict in its management and on our hobby. We're not allowed to import inverts which counts out corals, sadly :(

In the time I had it in my tank, it only intensified with colour. That was the only photo I have of it while it was in my tank, sadly I tore it down and the coral was rehomed. Once I set back up I'm angling for a frag of it 'cos it was definitely something unique...

^ LOL this guy. All you have to do to get bad *** sps is go swimming on your south western coast.

Was told this was a Tyree blue flowers monti cap, or something like that when I picked it up off another reefer. Grey rimmed, greenish tint body, and blue polyps, one of my favorites, and never seen one like it before otherwise.

Ah yeah, I see the one you're talking about, yep, looks very similar. Quick grower too, pretty close to the speed of my orange cap.
