Rastas

Hey guys can you give me some of your experiences with your Rastas? I wanna get one head and try to grow it out, but I've heard they are delicate and extremely hard to acclimate. I don't wanna spend $50 and just have it go to waste.

i started with one now i have 4.they are not the fastest growing but they are one of my favorites.i have been told stories of people getting them and then they melt away.i have had mine for many months and they are no harder to keep then any other zoa.just my 2 cents.

i have the same experience, doing real well for me. i also keep darth mauls with no problem and everyone else tells me the same thing

I received some from a member here and only 1 polyp opened but about a week later the remaining 2 polyps opened and I now have a new polyp growing after some intense spot feeding of oyster eggs.

They seem pretty hardy if you ask me. Just takes a little while to acclimate to the tank. I would recommend getting some, they are tiny but look great blasted with actinic.

They aren't too tough to keep, though they don't like fragging. Mine stopped growing for a couple of months when I nipped of some polyps hanging off the plug. They've since bounced back and I've gone from 3 to ~20+ polyps since Nov.

Okay thanks for the input guys. Seems like not many people are having problems with them melting away as i've heard

i got a ? for you guys, i have pretty pennies and what a business is telling me is a true rasta, i can't really get a good pic. Do you guys know how i could tell if it was a true rasta?

Pretty pennies are a morph of rastas. Maybe they were pretty pennies and then morphed back to rasta:spin3: Check out zoa id for pics on the two. I honestly cant tell the difference. The colors are awesome in both.

pretties can't be just a morph, rastas are slow growers pretty pennies you can have 20 in a week, They have to be separate or something. I looked at a rastas id and and they seem too have crazy dark green skirts, mine are green but not like the pics. so i dont know

Just telling you what I read.

In my experience, they take a while to settle into a new tank and/or heal from fragging in the same tank. Like - weeks. Post fragging, sometimes they'll open up right away on the cleanest of frags and sometimes a couple weeks on 'messier' frags.

But once they establish, my experience is that their growth rate isn't too bad!

Though I don't want to start any debate drama with this thread, Pretty Pennies and Rastas are distinctly different. I finally got both in my tank (you could call Pretty Pennies "Michigan Rastas" and not be too far off...) and they have different colors. Rastas have the same color of green on the skirt and disc, with a dark, almost black center. Pretty pennies have a lighter shade of yellowing green on the skirt, with a rasta-like green on the disc, and the center is not as dark. They also seem to have more bluish highlights. They are both very nice polyps, I wouldnt say one is particularly more attractive than the other. One just costs more because it grows slower :)
