Hello everyone, I was just "gifted" this 140 gal glass tank and have had it up and running in my home for about a month now. this not how I wanted to start the hobby, i wanted to start slow and start my own tank but this came to me and i was thrust into it fast and furious. i know i have a red slime issue and i am working on that with water changes, less feeding and i have used chemiclean. i also had a very bad Aiptasia issue but i added a Kliens Butterfly and he is taking care of that nicely. I just recently started having a microbubble issue, i think they are called. But i believe this is due to my skimmer acting crazy after the chemiclean treatment. Yes i did turn off my skimmer for the 48 hrs then did a 30% water change and clean. After that is when my bubble issue started. I have had some help with my testing and levels and am told everything is in line. At this point i still have so much to learn, but i am reading and testing on my own everyday. The two Clown fish, yellow tang and leather coral (?) came with the tank. i added the butterfly, starfish and a convict blenny that is still mainly in hiding. I have also added 2 peppermint shrimp. 2 turbo snails and about 20 red & blue legged hermits. I do not plan on adding any more fish but wish to start building my coral, anemone and inverts slowly as i am learning. I am currently just looking for comments or suggestions.

thanks for looking!

Ps. any idea what those green 'buttons" in my last picture are?

Zestay, could you give me a bit more info. i am still way to new at this to know what you mean.

thanks
You can purchase bulbs for your lighting unit in different spectrums.

It looks like you are running 10k or daylight bulbs, which are good for growth, but have a yellow hue to them.

The higher spectrum you get, the bluer the tint will begin to get. This makes colors in your fish and corals really begin to "pop"

Although they are not as good for growth.

Here is an example of 10k vs 14k Metal hallide lighting, from RC member Xenon's build thread:

Very nice start to say the least!

As for the polyps in the last picture.....I think those might be anemones! touch them and see if they are sticky.

That pic you are referring to as a leather looks like sp. pectinia to me .Is it hard or soft ? If hard then it is pectinia which is very aggressive with up to 8" sweeper tentacles it extends at night that will kill any coral within it's reach.

sassafrass, the leather(?) is soft and has no tentacles at night or the day. The guy i got the tank from called it a leather, but i am just not sure what kind.

thanks

Eklikewhoa, i think you may be right? I touched them and can really tell if they are sticky or not? but i seems as if some of them have moved on the rocks from where they were when i took the picture yesterday. They have moved about 3 inched up the rock. do mushrooms move??

did you buy that sea star missing a limb cause if not you have a crab(hitchhiker) look for him at night or your sea star will look like mine. i finally found the crab.

stuccodude - my star has all the limbs he had when i bought him (5). I will look for a crab at night though,

thanks!
