Rate this Camera and deal

nikon d40 is a good starter camera. and you cant really go wrong with amazon. check out BH and adorama too for a lil price shopping

I found a refurbished item on adorama for about $100 less. hmmm. anyone every buy one?

thanks, jnfallon- I'll check out the thread.

i bought my xti from adorama refurbished. saved about 100 ish. love it. its like brand new. if i put it next to a brand new one, you couldnt tell a difference.

In fact, some says refurbished item is even better because the QA is more rigorous. I guess it's all depends on the brand. I personally not totally believe this but kinda make sense... and save money.

btw. it really depends on the item and sales channel. My wife had a Sprint PCS phone replacement for free and it was a refurbished phone but it just kept breaking. After further investigation, the phone had been fixed numerous times, like over 30 times. Well, that's a free replacement, I think it's a little different from those you actually "buy" from them.

Hi, I was sent this link by a friend who just purchased this camera for his family. I am thinking of this same one for my first SLR since we're expecting out first child in a few weeks. Was wondering how it might do for taking reef pics and if it looks to be a good deal?

It's a fine starter camera, but IMO the Canon XT is a better buy. I have the Nikon D200, Canon 40D and the Canon XT and the XT can really pull its own against these two other camera image quality wise (at less than 1/3 the price btw). Nikon came out with the D40x because the D40 had some short-comings vs the Canon XTi. Canon also has a wider and less expensive lens lineup (Nikon lenses cost around 10-20% more.) Right now I'm seriously thinking about selling my XT since it has benn sitting doing nothing for three months and my Nikon D200 is plenty backup. I was thinking of selling it for around $250 with battery grip but no lens so I'm sure you will find similar deals out there. Just my two cents...

interesting stuff. yea, the refurb really looks like a good deal. im a fan of many things refurbished but, i agree, it all depends.

i'll check out b&h now.

and also the canon xt as well.

will post updates! thanks!

Hi. I think any of these cameras will do a great job. You can have a great camera body but if you attach a cheap lens to it, the results will show. Im a believer of spending the money to buy a good lens. Canon sells a 60mm macro lens that it fairly priced that would allow you to get some nice pictures of your new baby, and will allow you to go in close to your reef to take your shots. Good luck with your purchase.
